Journal History

JKI aims to promote excellence in nursing and health care through the dissemination of evidence-based, peer-reviewed clinical information and original research, the discussion of relevant and controversial professional issues, adherence to the standards of scientific integrity and excellence, and the promotion of nursing perspectives to the health-care community and the public. All JKI articles are required to have a sound scientific, evidential, theoretical, or philosophical base and to be critical, questioning, and scholarly in approach.

JKI was first published three times a year in 1997 with the cover design of the letter "JKI" and yellow typical of the color of the Universitas Indonesia. Then the cover design was changed by adding the titles of the articles in 1998 and published only twice a year. The frequency of publication was irregular due to limited input until 2000, then improved starting from 2001 until now. Then began in 2008, in the context of national re-accreditation and improving quality, the editors decided to issue 3 times a year (March, July, and November). In 2013, the journal cover had changed following the rules from the journal accreditation body in Indonesia and began using electronic journal management with Open Journal System (OJS). The journal is scheduled for online management and open access publications for the year 2014, Volume 17. Since then, the journal has managed and processed the publishing of articles using OJS. In 2017, the journal was registered in Crossref and had a unique DOI number. The journal management is supervised by the Directorate of Administration, Data and Management of Research and Innovation Products, Universitas Indonesia.

In 2018, JKI began publishing articles in Bahasa and English. Since 2020, JKI has published all articles in English. JKI collaborates with several Language Editing Services to ensure the quality of the language according to scientific publication standards in processing the publication of articles in English.
