Use of Generative AI

For Authors

Authors are required to declare any use of AI and AI-assisted technologies upon submission by completing and submitting the AI Use Declaration Form along with their manuscript, specifying the technology used and its intended purpose.

  • Supported Use: AI may be used in the writing process strictly to improve language and readability.
  • Prohibited Use: AI must not replace core researcher tasks, such as generating scientific insights, analyzing and interpreting data, drawing conclusions, or formulating recommendations.
  • Editorial Assessment & Transparency: Editors will evaluate the appropriateness of AI usage. This declaration will be shared with peer reviewers and openly disclosed in published papers starting from Volume 29, Issue 2 (2026). *(For further context, please refer to Elsevier's policy on AI in scientific writing).*

For Reviewers

JKI strictly prohibits reviewers from using generative AI or AI-assisted technologies to draft, generate, or complete peer-review reports. Reviewers must provide independent intellectual assessments, critical evaluations, and expert feedback.

  • Confidentiality & System Tracking: Uploading manuscripts, data, or draft reviews into external AI tools or platforms violates confidentiality agreements and data privacy policies. All review activities are monitored within the journal's system to uphold academic integrity.

For Editors

Editors at JKI must maintain absolute editorial independence, confidentiality, and objectivity throughout the evaluation process.

  • Supported Use: Editors may utilize AI-assisted tools strictly for administrative tasks, such as checking grammar or drafting general correspondence templates.
  • Prohibited Use: Editors must not use generative AI to make editorial decisions, evaluate scientific validity, or replace human judgment. Confidential manuscript details and reviewer identities must never be uploaded into public or external AI tools.
  • Transparency: Editors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest regarding AI tools and ensure human oversight remains central to all workflows.
