Editorial and Peer-review Process
The editorial and peer-review process at Jurnal Keperawatan Indonesia (JKI) that every published manuscript adheres to high standards of scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical integrity, and relevance to nursing science. Please access our flowchart here. The process consists of the following stages:
1. Editorial evaluation
This stage combines the initial check, editorial evaluation, administrative review, and editorial review. The manuscript undergoes an initial screening to verify compliance with submission requirements, editorial policies, publication ethics, and similarity checking (Turnitin). The Editor-in-Chief evaluates the manuscript’s suitability and scientific quality before assigning it to a Section Editor, who then assesses its originality, rigor, and overall readiness for external peer review.
⚠️ Note: If any required information is missing or if the manuscript is deemed unsuitable, it may be returned for correction or rejected before entering peer review.
2. Peer-review process
The manuscript undergoes a double-blind peer-review process by at least two independent reviewers selected based on their expertise. Reviewers evaluate the scientific quality and provide recommendations for improvement.
⚠️ Note: This stage depends on reviewer availability. Reviewers are typically given two weeks to complete their evaluations after accepting the review request.
3. Revision process
Based on the reviewers' reports, the editorial decision may be "accept", "minor revision", "major revision", or "reject". Authors receiving a revision decision are expected to submit a revised manuscript within the specified timeframe (1 week for minor revision, and 2 weeks for major revision).
4. Round two peer-review
Manuscripts requiring major revision are usually returned to the original reviewers for further evaluation. Reviewers assess whether the authors have adequately addressed all previous comments. Additional rounds of review may be conducted if substantial issues remain unresolved.
5. Final editorial decision
Following the completion of peer review, the Section Editor conducts a final evaluation of the revised manuscript and submits a recommendation to the Editor-in-Chief, who communicates the final publication decision to the authors.
6. Production
Accepted manuscripts proceed to the production stage. The Editorial Office will coordinate:
- Article processing charge (APC) notification;
- Professional proofreading and copyediting processes;
- Layout editing and final preparation for publication.
⚠️ Note: JKI currently collaborates with Scribendi and Cambridge Proofreading Services as its preferred proofreading providers. However, authors are free to use any professional English proofreading service.
Proofreading fees are separate from the APC and may be paid after the copyediting stage.
